After a 45-year career in healthcare, Tim Moran has announced his retirement

Chino, Calif., March 19, 2021 – Chino Valley Medical Center announced last week that its Chief Executive Officer, Tim Moran is retiring. Moran has led Chino Valley Medical Center since the summer of 2018, during a transitional time for the hospital.

During his tenure he has been credited with growing several service lines including urology and orthopedic services, strengthening partnerships with the primary care physician base, and helping establish relationships with several specialties to grow volume for the hospital. Moran plans to retire in Northern California with his wife, Vicki, in May to enjoy fly-fishing and playing tennis.

Sunny Bhatia, MD, CEO of Region I and Corporate Chief Medical Officer of Prime Healthcare, described Tim Moran as an inspirational leader. “Tim’s deep well of knowledge and commitment to the mission of Prime Healthcare and Chino Valley Medical Center has helped evolve the hospital to improvements in many areas including patient experience, physician relations, and community engagement. Prime Healthcare is grateful to him and we wish him the best in his well-earned retirement.”

“It has been an honor to lead such a dedicated team of talented people over the past three years,” said Moran. “Together, we have fostered our partnerships to better provide a more robust range of services for people living within the Chino Valley community.”

Moran’s tenure at Chino Valley Medical Center marks the culmination of a successful and rewarding career. Tim took over the reins of his first hospital in Sonora, California when he was just 26 years old, and since that time has worked for independent hospitals and major health systems such as Tenet, Dignity Health, and CHS. His hard-won insights over the years led him to many accomplishments and life-long friendships. His career includes saving a hospital from closing in Northern California to opening two hospitals in Saudi Arabia and building and opening hospitals across the United States, from South Carolina to California.

“Tim Moran is a calm, confident and innovative leader,” said Cheryl Gilliatt, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Chino Valley Medical Center. “Tim came to the hospital during a huge transition and brought enthusiasm and experience to drive us forward. He was our leader during the pandemic and continually focused on what was needed to provide quality patient care. Early on in his tenure, he got to know the team and made rounds often. He taught me that executive leadership is not just a profession, but a passion. He is leaving Chino Valley Medical Center in a better place than when he found it.”

Highlights of Moran’s tenure at Chino Valley Medical Center include:

  • Opened a timeshare medical office for specialty follow-up appointments and general primary care medical services.
  • Revitalized the hospital’s financial position through the growth of volume in procedures including urology, cardiology, and gastrointestinal care.
  • Expansion of the orthopedic service line through partnerships with various surgeons.
  • Recruited 25 primary care and specialty providers to serve the Chino Valley community.
  • Led the facility through the pandemic, ensuring patients received comprehensive quality care.

Chino Valley Medical Center has also earned numerous quality and clinical excellence achievements in general surgery, patient safety, hip fracture treatment, and gallbladder surgery from Healthgrades and other rating organizations.

“I greatly admired Tim when he wanted to meet with the local physicians as the new CEO,” said Anita Kundi, DO, a local family medicine physician, and addiction specialist. “I remember thinking that Tim was so refreshing and very welcoming. Tim has been a great listener every time we met and was genuinely interested in my feedback and how he could improve my relationship with Chino Valley Medical Center. In all my interactions with Tim, I always knew that with his intelligence, his people skills, and his warmth he would be awesome for the hospital and for our local community.”

Chino Valley Medical Center is currently conducting a search for Moran’s successor.
